The Short Story

A psychology professor once walked into class with a glass of water. The students expected the usual “half empty or half full” question.

But instead, she asked,
“How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers ranged from 200g to 500g.

She replied,
“The weight doesn’t matter. What matters is how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s light. If I hold it for an hour, my arm will ache. If I hold it all day, my arm will go numb. In each case, the weight doesn’t change — but the longer I hold it, the heavier it feels.”

She paused, then added,
“Stress is like that glass of water. If you carry it for too long, it will break you. Put it down. Rest. Then pick it up again if needed.”

Stress is part of life — but unmanaged, it weighs us down. What matters isn’t avoiding stress completely, but learning when and how to release it.

  • 🌿 Take mindful breaks – even 5 minutes of deep breathing helps.

  • 🚶 Move your body – walk, stretch, or exercise.

  • 📵 Unplug regularly – protect your peace from digital overload.

  • “It’s not the load that breaks you, it’s how you carry it.”
