🗓️ Celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eternal symbol of love, mischief, and divine wisdom.
✨ Introduction:
Every year, under the blanket of a starry August night, millions of devotees across India stay awake to celebrate Janmashtami—the birthday of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Amid prayers, bhajans, decorated swings, and delicious sweets, this festival is not just about rituals—it's about stories that remind us of Krishna's playfulness, charm, and spiritual wisdom.
Here is one such heartwarming short story to celebrate the occasion.
📖 Short Story: “The Midnight Miracle”
In a small village named Vrindagiri, Janmashtami was the most awaited festival. The villagers believed that every year, Lord Krishna visited their ancient temple at midnight—the time of his divine birth.
Among the villagers was a curious and kind-hearted boy named Kanu, just ten years old. His mother would often tell him bedtime tales of Krishna stealing butter, dancing with gopis, and defeating evil demons.
But this Janmashtami, Kanu had a wish.
"I want to see Krishna. Not a picture. Not a statue. The real one," he whispered during the evening aarti, his eyes full of devotion.
That night, while the village gathered at the temple with dholaks beating and chants echoing through the hills, Kanu quietly sneaked out. He had made a tiny swing out of bamboo and flowers, placing it under an old peepal tree near the lake.
"Krishna, I know you're busy tonight visiting many homes, but if you have time... please come here," he said innocently.
The clock struck midnight. A soft breeze passed. Kanu dozed off near the swing, holding a peacock feather in his hand.
Suddenly, a faint sound of a flute filled the air.
Kanu woke up. The lake shimmered unusually. A blue-hued child with a radiant smile, wearing a yellow dhoti and adorned with wildflowers, sat gently on the swing.
"Kanu, you called me. I had to come," said the boy, his eyes sparkling like the stars above.
They laughed, sang, and played with a ball made of lotus petals. Before the dawn, the boy placed his hand on Kanu’s head.
“You have a pure heart. That is where I live.”
And just like that, Krishna vanished.
When the villagers found Kanu sleeping near the peepal tree, he held a fresh butter ball in his hand—still warm.
No one knew how it got there, but everyone believed one thing: Krishna had truly come that night.
