He believed that if he could make the king laugh hard enough, he’d be granted anything he wished. And so, every day, Naro performed louder, sillier, and more dangerous acts. Fire-breathing. Sword juggling. Mocking nobles. Even insulting the queen once—just to get a reaction.

The court laughed. The king chuckled. But day after day, the crown never came.

Frustrated, Naro hatched a plan. During the grand midsummer feast, he would declare himself king—“as a joke,” of course. So, draped in velvet curtains and wearing a golden fruit bowl as his crown, Naro leaped onto the royal table and shouted:

“Behold! Your new King of Fools!”

The court gasped. The king didn’t laugh.

Guards were called. The “King of Fools” was thrown into the dungeon. And for the rest of his days, Naro sat in a cell, still wearing his makeshift crown, whispering to himself:

“They just didn’t get the joke.”
