🕳️ "The Hollow Coin" — A Short Story on Corruption
Corruption isn't just a broken system; it's a hollow coin—shiny on the outside, but empty within.
📖 The Hollow Coin — Short Story
In the heart of a bustling city stood a grand old courthouse, its walls stained with the secrets of justice both served and sold.
Judge Prakash was respected, even revered. A man of fine suits, smoother speeches, and an impeccable record—on paper. But beneath the polished wood of his bench lay drawers full of cash-stuffed envelopes and forgotten morality.
One rainy morning, a young intern named Aarav joined the chambers. Bright-eyed, idealistic, and fresh from law school, he believed in truth, law, and doing what was right. He looked up to Judge Prakash like a disciple to a sage.
Weeks passed. Aarav started noticing inconsistencies. A bribe slipped in with a handshake, a sentence shortened after a private "donation." Files vanished, verdicts reversed.
One evening, Aarav found a peculiar coin on the judge's desk—a golden coin with a clean face but a hole in the center. Curious, he asked.
The judge smiled bitterly.
"That’s the system. Looks whole, but there's nothing inside."
Aarav felt the floor beneath his beliefs crack.
The final blow came when Aarav watched a rape survivor break down in the hallway—the accused had walked free. The reason? The victim couldn’t afford “facilitation.” The judge looked away. Aarav did not.
He walked out that day, his resignation letter short but searing:
“I refuse to be a part of a hollow system. I’d rather be poor with purpose than rich with rot.”
Years later, Aarav returned—not as an intern, but as a public prosecutor. This time, with evidence. This time, with the press.
Judge Prakash was arrested. And as he was led away, his last words to Aarav were:
"The coin is still hollow. You're just on the cleaner side."
Aarav didn’t smile. He knew it was true. But he also knew—every filled hole begins with one coin.
🔍 Moral of the Story:
Corruption is subtle. It hides behind prestige, titles, and fake smiles. But it begins with one small compromise. And it ends when someone decides enough is enough.
Even one honest person can expose the rot in a golden mask.
✍️ Author's Note:
This story is fiction—but the corruption it portrays is not. Whether it's the legal system, politics, or daily transactions, corruption survives because of silence.
Let’s not be silent anymore.
