πΏπ️ The Silent Spin of the Charkha – A Gandhi Jayanti Short Story πΏπ️
Date: October 2nd
Occasion: Gandhi Jayanti – Celebrating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
✍️ Short Story: The Silent Spin of the Charkha
In a quiet village in Gujarat, young Aarav stared curiously at an old, dusty spinning wheel—the charkha—that had belonged to his great-grandfather. He had seen it in the corner of their ancestral home for years but had never dared to touch it.
One day, on October 2nd, his grandmother called him over and said, "Aarav, do you know what today is?"
“Yes, Dadi. It’s Gandhi Jayanti,” he replied.
She smiled gently, “Do you know what this charkha meant to Bapu?”
She told him how Mahatma Gandhi spun cotton on the charkha every day—not just to promote Swadeshi, but to remind the nation of self-reliance, patience, and peaceful strength. Aarav listened, eyes wide, as she told stories of Gandhi’s salt march, his fasts, his silent protests, and his unwavering commitment to nonviolence.
Inspired, Aarav began to clean the charkha. With his grandmother’s help, he learned to spin cotton, feeling strangely calm with every silent turn.
That evening, he posted a picture on social media of himself spinning the wheel with the caption:
“Spinning not just thread, but truth, peace, and strength. #GandhiLives”
